Apple began testing features at the Apple Park Visitor Center earlier this month. BloombergMark Gurman Tweeted Starting today, this feature will be rolled out to Apple Stores across the United States and will be available for customers to try. Apple said the feature will be available in the United States later this year, but the company hasn’t shared a specific launch period yet. This feature allows small businesses and sellers to accept contactless payments via iOS apps supported using iPhone XS and above. At checkout, the merchant simply encourages the customer to hold their iPhone or Apple Watch, contactless credit or debit card, or other digital wallet near the merchant’s iPhone, and payment is NFC technology. Currently, sellers accepting contactless payments on the iPhone will have to rely on additional hardware such as Square Reader. SquareReader is available in a variety of models that work wirelessly or connect to the Lightning connector or headphone jack on your iPhone.
